The Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation has approved construction of over 1.27 lakh houses in Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka to be built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban). The houses will be built with an investment of Rs 6,478 crore. Central assistance of Rs 1906 crore has been cleared for the purpose.

Uttar Pradesh will get 70,784 houses in 145 cities which will be built with an investment of Rs 3,528 crore. With this, the total number of houses sanctioned for the state has increased to 1,12,738. The government had earlier sanctioned 41,954 houses including those approved under Rajiv Awas Yojana, which has been now subsumed under PMAY (Urban). 

Soon after assuming office, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath sent affordable housing proposals for 145 cities which the Centre has approved. Central assistance of Rs 1,062 crore has been approved for the same.

Of the 70,784 houses approved, 56,839 will be constructed under the Affordable Housing in Partnership component and 13,945 houses under Beneficiary Led Construction component of PMAY(Urban). Under these two components, the central assistance of Rs 1.50 lakh will be given to each beneficiary, an official statement said.

Under the latest approvals, Lucknow has got 1,525 houses, Gorakhpur-501, Ayodhya-500, Iltifatganj-903, Faizabad-769, Dudhi-765, Rudauli-713, Singahi Bhiraura-821, Chatra-783, Purdhinagar-674, Kanpur Dehat-442, Daurala-505, Sikandra-447, Akbarpur-449, Aliganj-511, Bareily-139 and Azamgarh-119.

Karnataka will get 56,281 more affordable houses in 93 cities and towns with an investment of Rs 2,950 crore and Central assistance of Rs 844 crore. 

Bengaluru will get 8,291 houses, Bellary-1,613, Shivamogga-1,500, Chennapatna-1,450, Hubbali-1,300, Dharwar-1,292, Challakere-1,127, Kanakpur-1,163 and Sira-1,008.

For the first time, Andaman & Nicobar Islands have been sanctioned 609 houses for Port Blair with an investment of Rs 54 crore and Central Assistance of Rs 9 crore.

With these latest approvals, the total number of affordable houses approved for construction under PMAY(Urban) has increased to 20,95,718 since the launch of the program in 2015.

Really it is good sign and symbol of urban development of 2nd 3rd Tier towns to next elevation level. But, being a civil construction professional, we couldn't see good quality of construction by contractors to government projects because of bribery to all levels for securing contracts, passing bills etc. If really wants meaningful of the Investment of Rs 6478 Crores.
