At a time when we are bombarded with news of major infrastructure projects being delayed, here is some good news. A stretch of the metro line from Noida to Greater Noida may actually be completed before its deadline, making commuting easier for thousands while positively impacting property markets in the region.

Noida-Greater Noida metro line ahead of schedule?

The Noida-Greater Noida metro line is a 30-kilometer long link connecting Noida and Greater Noida. It will have 21 stations starting from the City centre station to the Depot station in Greater Noida, making commuting a whole lot easier. And you won’t have long to wait for it either, with the Noida metro rail corporation claiming to be on track to make it operational before the set deadline.

“This Noida-Greater Noida was supposed to be completed as per the detailed project report (DPR) by April 2018. But four months before that, we will open it for public and it will be a record. A 30-kilometer line has never before been opened in one go.” says Santosh Kumar Yadav, managing director of the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC).

The NMRC is expecting nearly 1.45 lakhs riders on the track in 2017-18. The sectors the metro line will be passing through are getting populated by thousands of home buyers who are shifting into the many group housing projects that are being launched in the region. NMRC officials are working on developing a support system for commuters and these housing projects by constructing skywalks which will connect the metro stations directly to the projects.

Two new metro lines on the way?

The NMRC has also sent DPRs to the state government for the construction of two new metro corridors which were approved last year by the Noida and Greater Noida Authority. The first project is a 15-kilometer metro corridor from Sector-71 in Noida to Knowledge Park 5. From Sector-71, the metro will pass through Gaur Sons intersection and will reach Greater Noida west in Sector-4. The route will further extend to Ecotech 12, Sectors 2, 3, 10 and 12 and will end at Knowledge Park 5. Another corridor will be an 11kilometer link from Okhla Bird Sanctuary to Sector-142 in Noida.

Happy with the way things are moving, real-estate developers are already upbeat about the impact that the new metro lines will have on their businesses

“Metro connectivity gives a positive impetus to the micro-markets. Developers are upbeat with the way construction of metro line is going on and this is certainly helping us to sell our property.” says Deepak Kapoor of Gulshan Homz.

As things stand, work on the Noida-Greater Noida metro line is proceeding quickly. The trial runs are expected to start next November and so far, nearly half of the project has been completed.
