Yamuna Expressway Authority Cracks Whip; Cancels 17 Housing Projects

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has cancelled building plans for 17 housing projects. This includes projects by Jaypee Group, Oriss, Urbania and Ajnara among others.

"We found certain shortcomings in safety issues like fire safety and also sewage management issues. We had sought clarifications from the builders regarding these. They were given 90 days time, as per rules. But they did not respond. So we cancelled the building plans," YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh said.

Clarifications were sought with regard to building plans between 2014 and 2016.

"We have now asked the builders to submit affidavits along with fresh building plans for approval. The affidavits will have details of the number of investors, list of buyers and commitments made to the buyers. In case the builder fails to comply with the timelines and commitments made then we will impose heavy penalties. We are going to monitor projects very closely," Singh added.

YEIDA to review projects every 15 days.

"A team has been set with officials of the authority and police. Building plans to be cleaned only after a builder gives possession of the project. Building plans to be approved in phases post completion of prior projects," CEO Singh said.

Out of the 17 projects, 7 belong to Jaypee Group, which is currently facing protests from buyers because of significant delays in execution of its projects in Noida and Greater Noida, where it is developing over 30,000 flats.

Meanwhile reacting to the developments, MD of Gaursons & VP CREDAI, Manoj Gaur said, "The revised plans for the plots were submitted which on technical grounds got rejected and can be reapplied with notified corrections. Also, the cancellation on technical grounds was because of the time delay caused by the recent implementation of Model Code of Conduct in the state because of the assembly elections. The project is absolutely safe and is fully paid up with no pending dues. The concerning issue is a small glitch which will be resolved."

"The current confusion regarding our project in Yamuna Expressway, we would like to clear the confusion that project sanction plan is duly approved and is being developed as per the approvals. We had just applied for few minor revisions and had nothing to do with the whole project and it got cancelled whereas the building plans/map sanctions etc remains intact and approved and the project is being developed as per it and will be delivered very soon", clarified Ajnara Developers.

  1. I am very happy with government action. We had similar situation in Faridabad where Project got delayed for more than 3 years and saftey issue were compromised. But goverment was not proactive. I wish current Government in Haryana can review all the project which is running and also completed one to make sure investor getting safe house. Buiders charges so much money to maintain the campus. why can`t Haryana government can take suo moto action and fix the ongoing issues.
